Windsurfing Clubs That Create Legends


Windsurfing clubs and associations were formed to organize and regulate local and international competition in the world of windsurfing. As it has grown, windsurfing has developed into several classes of racing disciplines:

  • Olympic Class: RS:X
  • Formula Class Racing
  • Slalom
  • Super X
  • 500m Speed Racing
  • Indoor Racing


And some judged competitions have also developed:

  • Freestyle
  • Wavesailing

These disciplines/classes are regulated by a few organizations which are recognized by the international control authority of sailing, the International Sailing Association (ISAF). The ISAF itself is responsible for the regulations of some competition classses such as Formula and Olympic (RS:X) Class Racing.

The association that carries legendary statis and has done the most for windsurfing is undoubtedly the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA). It carries the most weight in professional competition.





Organizations that work under and with the ISAF and PWA are:

  • The International Mistral Class Organization (IMCO)
           The Olympic One-Design Class which works with Mistral One Design (MOD)and Mistral Junior One Design (MJOD)
  • International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC)
           A professional and semi professional class with wide short boards.
  • International Funboard Class Association (IFCA)
           A Wave and Freestyle combination called Freewave.
  • International Board Sailing Association (IBSA)
           A Raceboard Class with longboards.
  • International Speed World Cup (ISWC)
           The ISA is the IFCA division for speedsurfing. The ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix Tour is sanctioned by IFCA.

    The International Windsurfing Association (Link) is another organization that was formed in 2001 to help coordinate and unite the world of windsurfing competition. windsurfing clubs It plays an important role in coordinating the International calendar and in avoiding disputes between classes. It is a valuable link between the sport and the ISAF and other organizations.

    There are many national and local windsurfing clubs and associations that organized the sport on a grass roots level.
