About Izzy:
Inspired by her father when she was 8, Izzy began windsurfing and sailing on the Upper Tamar Lakes with a sailing club. Inspired by a coach, she started competing in Royal Yachting Association race events. She did very well in competition and was put on teams that enabled her to train with top coaches. They have been relentlessly passionate and professional in supporting her along the journey and she has responded in kind. She sails her best in windy conditions.
Interests/Skills:
Although Izzy is a UK windsurfing zealot, she also plays hockey for school and is a team member of the North Cornwall Rock Climbing Academy. She swims with Bude Sharks Swimming Club and is a member of Budehaven Community Sports College’s Elite Sport Academy.
"I knew if the event was windy I would be in with a chance of a medal. The wind was around 15 to 20 knots towards the end of the week and those conditions really suit me, so I was confident of a good finish."
Championship win:
Izzy won silver in Brazil at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships. Then, a few weeks later she won the women's event at the Palmalife RS:X Youth World Championships in Bodrum, Turkey.
"I am really pleased to see Izzy deliver another excellent performance at a major regatta in such quick succession to the silver she won at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship. It is not easy to deliver consecutive peak performances at two of the biggest events of her life in the space of a month. To do so requires robust mental skills, routines and, of course, fitness. I am pleased to see that all the hard work she has put in, both alone and with her coaches and the squad during training has paid off.” -RYA youth racing manager Duncan Truswell
In Turkey she competed against 30 other talented athletes over six days of racing. But the wind was in her favor and in higher wind speeds she is hard to beat. In the final race she took a tremendous lead to the finish.

Goal:
To qualify for an Olympics.
Izzy will now resume training with the Olympic development squad in Weymouth.
Izzy Hamilton is Britain's first windsurfing youth world champion. And she has proved she is one of the world's best young windsurfers.
"I am very determined."
